瑞泉寺建立に際して京都から派遣された大工が彫刻を伝えたのが始まりとされ、地元の大工が腕を競ううちに超絶技巧に発展した。欄間や獅子頭などに代表される木彫刻作品は、数百本の道具を使い分けながら作られる。
Inami Woodcarving
It is said that carving was first introduced to Inami by a carpenter sent from Kyoto when Zuisenji Temple was built, and developed into a superb craft as local carpenters competed in their skills.
